Driver In Fatal Olympia Fields Crash Was 13: Sources

(CBS) – A 13-year-old girl was at the wheel of a car when the vehicle struck a tree in Olympia Fields Wednesday and killed a 12-year-old passenger inside, friends and family members of the victim tell CBS 2.

Twelve-year-old Almani Kreamer, a sixth-grader, died from his injuries.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Brookwood Terrace. Authorities believe the driver may have been speeding at the time of the accident. CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports the four teens in the vehicle were out for a joyride, in a parent's car.

Almani's mother, Regina Anderson, says her son was wearing his seatbelt when the vehicle slammed into a tree in Olympia Fields.

Friends of the victim say the driver was a 13-year-old girl, though police have not confirmed that detail. Authorities have said the four occupants in the car were younger than 16.

"They were all too young to be in a car together," Almani's mother told CBS 2 Thursday. "A thirteen-year-old driving, that part is – you don't know what to say. There's nothing you can do but pray."

The three other teens suffered serious injuries.
