(CBS) Longtime White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski has signed a one-year deal with the Boston Red Sox.
CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman was the first to report the signing.
Pierzynski will seemingly play the role of a placeholder, as the Red Sox have two solid catching prospects in Blake Swihart and Christian Vazquez.
Pierzynski, 36, spent the 2013 season with the Rangers.
