Yo-Yo Ma Surprises Mag Mile Shoppers With Pop-Up Concert

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Downtown shoppers got the surprise of a lifetime when out of nowhere a pop-up concert was set up and performed.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports this wasn't just any concert as the star performer was cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

On a ho hum dole drums wintery Tuesday, it was empty outside the Nordstrom. But something was astir.

Yo-Yo Ma, the world's premier cellist, was in the house.

"We just came to Chicago for like 24 hours and I'm seeing Yo-Yo Ma. It's so awesome," said Randi Costas.

It was the rush hour that stopped.

"Had some time to kill cause I didn't want to get there to early. I just lucked into this. This is thrilling," said one shopper.

"It's unbelievable. It's so crazy. He's like right here," said Neil Rodack.

It was the day beauty enveloped the foyer of the mall.

The folks at The Shops at North Bridge say they've never done this before. Would they do it again? Wait and see.
