Victims Detain Two Would-Be Robbers In Austin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two of four crooks were detained by their victims and injured Wednesday evening, while robbing a party in the old Zenith TV plant in the Austin neighborhood.

The party was being held in an office rental space in the former factory building in the 1900 block of North Austin Avenue when four armed suspects entered and announced a robbery about 9:45 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Two of the suspects fled the scene with cash and jewelry, but two others were held by victims until police arrived, Greer said. The two that were held were injured and taken to area hospitals, although the nature of their injuries was not immediately known, Greer said.

One of the suspects was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, Greer said. The other was taken in "stable" condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.

Charges against the two suspects are pending, Greer said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
