Suburban Family Worried About Wounded Deer

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (CBS) -- A family in Country Club Hills is growing increasingly worried about a wounded deer in the backyard.

WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports.

Kyla Kirkland said, since she first spotted the deer Tuesday outside the glass door to her family room, she's called Cook County Animal Control, the Cook County Forest Preserve District, and Country Club Hills police.

An officer finally came out to see the wounded animal early Wednesday morning.

"He said, 'We can't really do anything, because she's too close to the window, because we want to try to put her down.' That's when she tried to run off, but she couldn't get very far, besides maybe about ten feet into the yard. She started to come back," Kirkland said.

She said the deer has a bleeding gash in her leg. She's not sure how the animal was wounded, but thinks maybe she tried to jump a gate.

Kirkland doesn't want the deer killed. She simply wants her to go to some kind of wildlife refuge, where the animal could be nursed back to health.
