Kankakee River Bridges To Be Rebuilt On I-57

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Gov. Pat Quinn's office said Thursday that $19.3 million has been earmarked to rebuild bridges on Interstate 57 over the Kankakee River.

The money will come from the state's capital construction program, Illinois Jobs Now!, according to a news release.

Bridges carrying both north and southbound lanes of I-57 over the riverwill be replaced by D. Construction Inc. of Coal City, which was the lowest of seven bidders on the project, according to the release.

Work is scheduled to begin March 1 and be completed by December 2015, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
