Comcast Worker Shot, Critically Wounded

CHICAGO (CBS) --- A worker for Comcast was shot and critically wounded during an apparent robbery attempt on the South Side.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Kingston.

The cable installer was sitting in his truck when police say two men approached him, demanded his wallet then shot him in the stomach before making their getaway in a white sedan perhaps a Pontiac Bonneville.

"I'd say they ambushed him cause you know he's in the alley and he had no help," said community activist Andrew Holmes.

Chicago Police found a 9 millimeter shell casing at the scene and are now checking it for fingerprints. And there is other evidence, surveillance video.

"There are cameras in the alley. There are cameras on the side of some of these buildings so it's pretty well secured. Hopefully the images are clear enough so Chicago Police can probably identify these perpetrators," said Holmes.

Comcast is saying the incident is "shocking news and our thoughts and prayers go out to our employee and his loved ones ."

A long time area resident is also shocked.

"It's hit or miss in any neighborhood in Chicago. It's just unfortunate for that to happen on his job so God bless him, I hope the best for him."

He is in serious condition at northwestern hospital.
