Five Years After It Was Stolen, Dog Reunited With Illinois Family After Being Found In South Carolina

(CBS) -- A dog stolen from the backyard of an Illinois family more than five years ago was found wandering in South Carolina, and is now back with its rightful owners, reports WBBM's Terry Keshner.

Stolen Dog Reunited With Family

"This was absolutely astounding," said Kim Pitman, Executive Director of the Greenville, South Carolina Humane Society.

Pitman says the pit bull, Mona Lisa, was brought in on Sunday and thankfully it had a microchip, so they contacted the family in Illinois.

"They rolled up today after driving straight through the night and came running in and we verified all of their information and licenses and all of that kind of stuff and it was really wonderful to see their faces when they walked in the door and see that dog slap some kisses on them. It was wonderful," said Pitman.
