ST. CHARLES TWP. (CBS) — An elderly west suburban man will not be charged after choosing an unconventional method to knock icicles off his house—a handgun.

The 80-year-old man was shooting icicles hanging from his second-floor roof in the 6N300 block of Essex Avenue with a .22 revolver, Gengler said.

A neighbor called police to report the gunfire, he said.

Police told the man not to shoot any more icicles, but he had not been cited, nor charged with a crime as of Tuesday morning.
