Hinsdale Middle School Closed Friday Over Mold Concerns

(CBS) – Officials at a middle school in west suburban Hinsdale are closing the building Friday because students may be at risk of breathing in mold there.

Work crews have begun cleaning Hinsdale Middle School, which won't reopen until Tuesday because of the Martin Luther King holiday.

School officials say the recently topsy-turvy weather could be to blame. Burst pipes may have created mold.

"We're all very concerned," says parent Cathy Hoffman, citing existing health conditions some students may already have.

In a letter to parents from the school district, officials said a cleaning company "discovered possible mold growth, which has been sent in for testing."

"We are erring on the side of caution by closing school should the mold tests show any reason for concern," the letter continues.

The test results are expected Friday afternoon.
