Kamerman was employed as a student development specialist at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul.

She had been employed there since June and her family says she took the job to help the women in Afghanistan get an education.

Kamerman attended the Latin School of Chicago and Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.

She is the second Chicago-area woman killed in in Afghanistan over the last year. River Forest native Anne Smedinghoff was killed in southern Afghanistan last April while delivering textbooks to children.
