Man Injured, Eastbound Lanes Closed In I-80 crash

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) -- A two-vehicle crash involving a semi closed four miles of eastbound Interstate 80 in southwest suburban Joliet for about 30 minutes Saturday morning.

A Volkswagen traveling eastbound on I-80 lost control about 9:20 a.m. and struck a semi's trailer before flipping over, Illinois State Police Sgt. Scott Angus said.

The semi's trailer turned over on its side, and all eastbound lanes of the expressway were closed between Houbolt Avenue and Larkin Avenue, Angus said. Lanes were closed for about 30 minutes.

The male driver of the Volkswagen was taken with non-life-threatening injuries to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Angus said. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Angus said slick road conditions likely played a role in the crash as the Chicago area got hit with heavy snowfall overnight.

Illinois State Police are investigating.
