Four Hospitalized After La Grange Park House Fire

LA GRANGE PARK, Ill. (STMW) -- Four people were injured after a fire broke out at a home in west suburban La Grange Park.

Emergency crews responded at 3:36 p.m. to the blaze at a two-and-a-half-story home in the 500 block of North Kensington Avenue, according to a statement from La Grange Park Fire Department Chief Dean Maggos.

An unspecified number of people in the house said they heard what sounded like an explosion in the basement of the home before they saw smoke and ran outside. Everyone inside, including several dogs, escaped before firefighters arrived, Maggos said.

Two children and two adults were taken to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital with smoke inhalation, and their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, officials said.

Damage to the home was "substantial," but there was not an exact estimate on the value of damages, Maggos said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
