4 Dead, 5 Wounded In Shootings Saturday

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four men were killed and five other people were hurt in shootings on the city's South and West sides since Saturday morning.

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood early Sunday.

Deandre Baber was on the sidewalk in the 8000 block of South Elizabeth Street about 2:40 a.m. when someone fired shots from across the street, striking Baber in the head, authorities said.

Baber, of the 7300 block of South Winchester Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:58 a.m., according to a representative for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A few hours earlier, a 29-year-old man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The man was walking with a friend in the 400 block of West 117th Street a few minutes after midnight when shots were fired, police said.

The man was shot in the head and chest and taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m., authorities said. His name was withheld early Sunday pending notification of family members. His friend was uninjured.

A 66-year-old man was killed after he was shot in the neck in what appeared to be a robbery attempt Saturday afternoon in the 2300 block of West 57th Street about 2 p.m., police said, citing preliminary information.

The man, whose name was not released early Sunday, was pronounced dead at 2:48 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

About two hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the New City neighborhood on the South Side.

Michael Munoz was walking in the 1700 block of West 46th Street about 12:40 p.m. when a male shooter got out of a van and fired at him multiple times, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

The shooter then got back into the van, which drove away, police said. Police said the shooting appeared to be gang related.

Munoz, of the 6000 block of South Kolmar Avenue, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 1:21 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

At least five others have been wounded in shootings on the city's South and West sides since Saturday morning.
