Prosecutors: Man Stabbed His Mother And Then Took Her Cash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A south suburban man is accused of stabbing his mother repeatedly with a steak knife, then stealing $101 in cash from her, the Sun-Times is reporting.

Willie Jackson, 23, is accused of sneaking up behind his mother, then stabbing her repeatedly with a steak knife on Thursday at the family's home in Glenwood, Cook County prosecutors said Saturday.

The 43-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck, back and her thigh area, in addition to wounds inflicted on her hands that required surgery, prosecutors said. Jackson is also accused of stealing $101 in cash from her.

She was able to run out of the home to a neighbor's home, where help was called. Jackson was found nearby, covered in blood, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Jackson made statements to the police about the stabbing, though a motive was not disclosed in court Saturday.

Jackson is charged with armed robbery and aggravated domestic battery.

On Saturday, Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. set bail at $750,000 at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse. Prosecutors first asked for $150,000 bail, but Bourgeois increased the amount.

"That's too low," Bourgeois said.

This is Jackson's first arrest.
