Spokesman For U.S. Senate Candidate Hit In Head By Falling Ice

(CBS) -- Another signal that spring is approaching - the thawing of Chicago skyscrapers means ice falling downtown.

A walk through the Loop this morning ended in the emergency room for a suburban man after he was hit by a piece of ice from of a building near Washington and Wells.

Dan Curry, spokesman for Republican US Senate Candidate Doug Truax, says he was walking to meet his boss at about 7:45 a.m. when he was hit in the head.

The impact didn't hurt right away, Curry says, but it did cause him to stagger a bit and he start bleeding a lot.

He went by ambulance to the emergency room at Northwestern Memorial, where staffers said he had a bad cut but didn't need stitches.

So with gauze rapped around his head and blood stains on his shirt and coat , Curry was back out on the sidewalk - saying it's hard to avoid falling ice.

Curry thanks the good samaritans who stopped to help him as he waited for the ambulance.
