Cubs Send Many Top Prospects To Minor League Camp

(CBS) Cubs president Theo Epstein has time and again emphasized he wants to see his top prospects dominate at each level of the minors leagues before calling them up to the big leagues.

With that in mind, the Cubs sent nine prospects back to minor league camp Wednesday. The headliners were third baseman Kris Bryant and outfielders Albert Almora and Jorge Soler, along with Arismendy Alcantara, Logan Watkins, Matt Szczur, Eric Jokisch, Jeudy Valdez and Carlos Pimentel.

Bryant and Almora impressed in limited game action in spring training. Bryant homered twice in nine at-bats, and Almora was 5-for-9.

It hasn't been decided what level each prospect will open the season at.

Shortstop phenom Javier Baez is still in Cubs camp. He's likely to start the season in Triple-AAA.
