Chief Keef Charged With DUI In Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (STMW) -- Chicago rapper Chief Keef was arrested earlier this month for allegedly driving under the influence of marijuana in north suburban Highland Park.

Police pulled over the rapper — whose real name is Keith Cozart — about 12:40 a.m. March 5 in the 2600 block of Skokie Valley Road after officers noticed he had an expired registration on his 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Highland Park deputy chief George Pfutzenreuter said.

When police approached the car, they claim they noticed Cozart seemed impaired by drugs, and that they could smell burnt marijuana coming from inside of his car, Pfutzenreuter said.

Cozart later failed a sobriety test and was taken in to police custody, he said. He was charged with one count each of driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and having an expired registration, Pfutzenreuter said.

He was ordered held on $3,000 bond, and was released after posting the requred 10 percent, Lake County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Cythia Trujillo-Vargas said.

Cozart recently spent time in California serving a 90-day court-mandated rehab sentence after he pleaded guilty last year to testing positive for drugs while on probation, the Chicago Sun-Times has reported.

He will appear for an arraignment on the DUI charge April 11 at 9 a.m. at the Waukegan courthouse, Vargas said.
