Local Paralympian Returns Home After Winning Gold Medal In Sled Hockey

(CBS) -- It was an emotional homecoming in west suburban Northlake Monday as Brody Roybal arrived home after he captured gold with his sled hockey team in the Paralympics in Sochi.

A crowd of friends and family was there to greet Brody and congratulate him on winning a gold medal.

"It was absolutely amazing over there, all of the accommodations for us and everyone was so great over there," said Roybal. "We met all of the other athletes from Russia, Canada and other countries."

The U.S. team lost to Russia in the preliminary round, which Roybal said, "It just gave us more motivation to come back and win in the gold medal game."

The sophomore at West Leyden High School started competing in sled hockey at the age of seven.
