Boy Charged After Accidentally Shooting 14-Year-Old Girl

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 14-year-old boy has been charged after accidentally shooting a 14-year-old girl in Englewood.

Police said the boy was playing with a gun around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 6500 block of South Green Street, when it accidentally fired, striking the girl. She suffered a through-and-through wound in one thigh, and the bullet ended up in her other thigh.

The girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The gun was recovered at the scene, and the boy was taken into custody. He was charged as a juvenile with unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a handgun.
