AURORA, Ill. (CBS) — Bond has been set at a staggering $15 million for an Aurora man arrested on heroin peddling charges.

WBBM Newsradio’s Bob Roberts reports an Evanston couple faces related money laundering charges.

Police armed with search warrants seized nine kilograms of heroin, valued at $1.9 million, from the home of 41-year-old Modesto Alarcon; along with guns, ammunition, and $85,000 in cash.

Alarcon was charged with one count each of unlawful possession a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and money laundering. His bail was set at $15 million.

“When you take into consideration heroin and cocaine, other illicit street drugs, conservatively 70 percent of the crime committed is either directly related to the drug trade, in furtherance of somebody’s addiction, or committed a crime while they’re under the influence of an illegal drug,” McMahon said.
