CHICAGO (CBS) — As Urban Prep students changed red ties for red and gold striped ties, the Mayor of Chicago said he hopes others catch the four year college idea.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said it was not a fluke that every one of the 240 seniors at urban prep is heading for a four year college for the fifth year in a row.

“It is the expectation of every child on the city of Chicago that they one day can stand up here. Do not let it be the exception, make it the expectation for every child regardless of where they live,” said Emanuel.

As Emanuel watched, graduating seniors switched from red to red and goldc ties symbolizing acceptance at a four year college including Cornell, George Town, Tufts and for the first time the University of Michigan and Williams College.
