16-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot Near Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy died Monday afternoon after he was shot in near southwest suburban Joliet.

Will County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 400 block of Algonquin Street in unincorporated Joliet about 1:40 p.m. and found the teen had been shot, sheriff's office spokesman Ken Kaupas said.

He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he has since died, Kaupas said. The victim was identified as Joliet resident Robert J. Garcia.

Details on how the shooting happened were not yet available as sheriff's police continue to investigate.
