Report: Lakers Will Ask Bulls For Permission To Interview Thibodeau

(CBS) The Bulls have been eliminated from the playoffs for just two days, but their offseason is already full of intrigue.

The Lakers plan to ask the Bulls for permission to interview Tom Thibodeau for their vacant coaching opening, ESPNLA.com's Dave McMenamin reported. This detail comes out after Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski earlier reported that Kobe Bryant "will wish for Tom Thibodeau to free himself from Chicago."

Thibodeau has long been rumored to have some friction with the Bulls' front office, but after some midseason speculation that the Knicks wanted to pursue him, there's little talk of Thibodeau being anywhere but Chicago next season. Now, that appears to be changing.

Whether Thibodeau wants to sit down and listen to the Lakers remains unclear. The Lakers also are reportedly casting a wide net in gauging the interest of other big names, including John Calipari and Kevin Ollie in the college ranks.

After being an NBA assistant for years, Thibodeau has been the coach in Chicago for the last four. His current contract runs through the end of the 2016-'17 season.
