(CBS) The White Sox have promoted second baseman Michah Johnson from Double-A Birmingham to Triple-A Charlotte, they announced Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson is rated as Chicago’s third-best prospect by MLB.com. He was hitting .329 with three homers and 16 RBIs in 37 games for Birmingham this season, along with a .414 on-base percentage and a .466 slugging percentage.

Johnson projects as an eventual lead-off hitter by many gurus, and ESPN.com speculated the other day he could be called up later this season if he continues his stellar play in the minors.
