One Dead After Car Plunges Into Romeoville Pond

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed when a car somehow plunged into a retention pond in Romeoville.

The passenger of the 2001 Mazda, Kojo Pewudie, 54, was unable to get out of the vehicle after the accident,which happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Pewudie was found in the water by Romeoville Fire Department personnel, but was pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

The driver, Vanessa Kwakwe, 25, was able to get out of the pond, near Bluff Road, west of Joliet Road, and was being treated at the same hospital, officials said.
