Police: Man Tried Luring Girl In Austin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are looking for a man who allegedly followed a girl in his car and tried luring her Friday in the Austin neighborhood.

About 8:20 a.m. Friday, a girl was walking north in the 1600 block of North Mobile Avenue when a man, between 25 and 35 years old, drove up to her in a red four-door SUV and said, "Don't I know you from somewhere?" according to a community alert issued by Area North detectives.

The girl said, "No," and ran the opposite way to North Avenue, police said. The man followed her in his vehicle onto eastbound North Avenue, so the girl ran east to Merrimac Street. The man then drove to Merrimac Street and Wabansia Avenue, and the girl ran south, back to North Avenue, where someone offered to help her, police said.

The man is described as Hispanic with long black curly hair and a dark mustache, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200.
