Buerhle's Start Puts Him In Select Company

(CBS) Blue Jays left-hander and former White Sox standout Mark Buerhle picked up his 10th win of the season Sunday, scattering six hits and a walk in eight scoreless innings against the Royals, and the performance put him in select company.

Buerhle became just the sixth pitcher since 1997 to win 10 games by June 1, according to Fox Sports. The others were Ubaldo Jimenez (2010), Brandon Webb (2008), Curt Schilling (2002), Pedro Martinez (1999) and Roger Clemens (1997).

Buerhle's 10 wins leads the majors this year, as no one else has more than eight. He has also compiled a 2.10 ERA, which is sixth-best among qualifying players in the big leagues. This is Buerhle's second year in Toronto. He played for Miami in 2012 after spending 12 seasons with the White Sox.
