Second Man Dies After Huntley Domestic Dispute Leads To Shooting

HUNTLEY, Ill. (STMW) -- A second man who died from gunshot wounds more than a week after a violent argument with his brother in northwest suburban Huntley committed suicide, according to the coroner's office.

Mark Grundei suffered "severe head injuries" and died at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday at a hospice care center in Woodstock, according to police and the McHenry County Coroner's office.

An autopsy Thursday found Grundei died of a gunshot wound to the head, and his death is consistent with suicide, according to the coroner's office.

About 5:10 p.m. on May 26, Grundei's 81-year-old mother called police to a home in the 11400 block of Morning Glory Lane, saying she'd been shot, according to Huntley police.

A preliminary investigation suggests her two sons -- 48-year-old Robert Grundei and 50-year-old Mark Grundei -- were arguing when one pulled out a gun, police said.

Robert Grundei was shot in the head and shoulder, while his brother was shot in the head, police said.

The woman had the gun in her possession when police arrived and had a graze wound to her head, police said.

All three were taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where Robert Grundei, formerly of Coral Springs, Fla., died later that day, police said. The Kane County Coroner's office would not comment on the case.

Mark Grundei was transferred to a hospice center in Woodstock, where he later died.

The woman was treated and released from the hospital, police said.

A revolver was recovered at the scene. Police do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident.
