Young Mother On Life Support After Being Shot In Face

(CBS) -- She's only 20 and a young mother. Her parents say she is now brain-dead.

Michelle Pearson was shot in the face over the weekend in the 4600 block of South Ellis.

CBS 2's Mike Parker reports.

For two days now, four-year-old Antonio Pearson has been wailing for his mommy. He doesn't really understand.

His mother is on life support at  Northwestern Memorial Hospital -- the victim of a single gunshot wound.

Early Saturday morning, Michelle was in her car, dropping off friends at 46th and Ellis in the Bronzeville neighborhood. Somebody approached and shot into the car. One passenger suffered non-life-threatening wounds; she was not so lucky.

She's still on life support right now.

"I'm not worried. I believe God will bring her back to the way she left, the way we remember her," the victim's aunt, Raynetta Tyler, says.

Michelle is a mom who works at a South Side restaurant. A co-worker says she is dedicated to her little Antonio.
