Alderman, Drivers Want More Done To Fill City Potholes

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Potholes are so bad, drivers and aldermen alike are demanding action.

CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports even the best efforts to avoid potholes are often never enough.

Around Ira Myerson's home, it remains a daily dodge.

"I've had two flats just driving around," said Myerson.

Winter is a mere memory now, but the scars remain in the form of dangerously deep potholes.

"They say we'll get to it, but there is no answer," said Carmen Myerson. "They are still here."

Such is the complaint heard round the city.

The city says the effort to fix the potholes is ongoing and according to CDOT, crews have filled more than 550,000 since the start of the year.

Alderman Scott Waguespack isn't sure he believes that, saying in his ward streets have sat unfilled for months.

"It's not a question of identifying them, it's getting the guy at the top, the mayor, to commit to fixing those holes," said Waguespack.

"I mean, it's their job. It's like, we all have our jobs and they should take care of their job. It's very simple," said Myerson.

The city says the best way to report a pothole is to call 311.
