Long-Lost Dog Found In Rogers Park To Be Reunited With Owner In D.C.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A pug who escaped from his owners' back yard in Chicago three years was being reunited with his family, thanks to the help of a Chicago Police officer who found him earlier this week.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports an officer on patrol in Rogers Park was flagged down Monday by someone who told him a dog had been left tied to a pole for about five hours. The officer took the 8-year-old pug to the Felines & Canines shelter on Paulina Street.
Executive Director Abby Smith said they scanned the dog for an identification microchip, and up popped his name – Prince Charming – along with information about his owners.
"She was so shocked, and grateful, and surprised," she said. "I'm not sure who still thinks they're going to be reunited with an animal after several years like that, but it's mind-blowing, and she was screaming and so ecstatic."
Christina Parrilla, the owner, now lives in Washington, D.C.
She said Prince Charming is a runner, and laughed as she said he's twice run away. She's gotten him back both times thanks to the microchip.
"I guess he's meant to be with us, and that chip is what saved him," she said.
Her mother, who lives in Chicago, will bring Prince Charming to D.C. to be reunited with Parrilla.
