Metra Banning Alcohol On Trains Thursday Due To World Cup Viewing Party

(CBS) -- Metra says it's instituting its alcohol ban on trains Thursday.

WBBM's Bernie Tafoya reports it is all because of the large crowd expected to be going to Grant Park for the World Cup viewing party during Team USA's game against Germany.

"For many of our riders it is going to be a normal commuting day and we want everyone to be able to use our systems and be able to use them safely and to have a pleasant experience," said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

Reile says Metra has a "no alcohol' policy whenever there are large crowds anticipated downtown like the Taste of Chicago and last year's Blackhawks rally.

Metra also says it will be increasing its police presence on trains and in stations on Thursday.
