(CBS) While Team USA’s run is over at the World Cup, soccer fever swept the nation for several weeks.

At the White House, too.

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama called USA striker Clint Dempsey and goalie Tim Howard to congratulate them on a World Cup run that ended in the round of 16 with a 2-1 extra-time loss to Belgium on Tuesday. Obama thought the nation caught a soccer fever like never before.

“You did us proud,” Obama said.
