Police Arrest 5 Anti-Israel Protesters At Boeing HQ

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Five protesters were arrested late Wednesday afternoon inside the downtown headquarters of Boeing, after a demonstration against the company's sale of military jets to Israel.

WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports the demonstrators stood inside the lobby at Boeing headquarters, wearing white shirts stained with red paint - as their compatriots outside shouted, "Boeing, Boeing, Blood is flowing."

Then those outside cheered as the protesters inside were arrested. The demonstrators targeted Boeing headquarters because the company makes aircraft for sale to Israel.

Demonstration leader Lynn Pollack is Jewish, and she said protesting Israel, at first, was difficult for her.

"It was really hard, because I had been brought up to believe Jews wouldn't do the kinds of things that are happening in Israel," she said.

Earlier, the demonstrators read the names of those killed in the latest conflict: more than 200 Palestinians and one Israeli.

Siham Rashid was born and raised in Chicago. She is Palestinian, and has been living in Jerusalem for 20 years. Now back in Chicago for a visit, she read some of the names.

"We have 213 Palestinians, including four little boys - cousins - who were playing on the beach of Gaza," she said. "I'm hurting for the people of Gaza, because under no circumstances should they live under this constant fear."
