Michelle Obama's Chicago Trip: DNC Fundraiser, Dinner, Beyoncé

Updated 07/25/14 - 6:13 a.m.

(CBS) -- First Lady Michelle Obama came to Chicago Thursday to help rake in money for Democrats, grab dinner, and catch a Beyoncé concert.

At a fundraiser at the Waldorf Astoria, the president's wife spoke before more than 100 people and urged supporters to dig deep in their contributions to Democrats for the mid-term elections. Gov. Pat Quinn was in attendance at the Democratic National Committee reception, according to a White House media pool report.

"We need you to write the biggest, fattest check that you can possibly write," Obama told supporters, according to a transcript of her remarks provided by the White House.

She spoke for about 20 minutes. Donations ranged from $500 to $20,000 per person, CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports.

The first lady stopped at New Asian cuisine restaurant Sunda in River North before she attended a Beyoncé-Jay Z concert at Soldier Field with her two daughters, Sasha and Malia.

They didn't return to their Kenwood home until after midnight. They were expected to fly back to Washington on Friday.
