'Football Widows' Give Fox Sports The Finger

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman looks straight at the camera and gives Fox Sports the finger.

Then she points her index finger and "shoots."

But that's not the best part of Fox's new ad campaign for its hugely expanded schedule of college football on Fox Sports 1.

The best line of the "mockumentary," created by Pereira & O'Dell in New York?

"Thank you, Fox Sports 1, for ruining a perfectly decent husband," says the "football widow," who is clearly forlorn over the fact that the man who used to spend time with her now sits on the couch all day long, ignoring her and the family dog.

It appears no kids were harmed in the making of this film, because it appears the couple doesn't have any.

The tongue in cheek message: Fox is apologizing for adding something like 4,000,0000,000 percent more games, thus ruining the family lives of millions of households.

Adweek reports that the campaign includes TV spots, print and online ads and social media.

The highlight of the print effort will be a full-page "letter of apology" from Fox to the American people planned for The New York Times and New York Post, according to Adweek.
