Police: One Dead, Two Hurt In Crash After Traffic Stop

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person is dead and two others are hospitalized after a crash in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood Thursday night.

About 9:20 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of West 80th Street for having a busted out rear window, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. When police exited their car, the driver took off and the vehicle crashed into a light pole, Gaines said.

A man sitting in the front passenger seat was dead at the scene, Gaines said. His age was not immediately known.

Another man, 18, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A third person, a 20-year-old man, was taken to Christ Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Gaines said.

Gaines added that two weapons were recovered from the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not confirm the death Friday morning.
