Lincoln Park Zoo Says Farewell To Anana The Polar Bear

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Lincoln Park Zoo is having a farewell party Saturday for its 15-year-old polar bear that's being moved to a zoo on in North Carolina while a new polar bear exhibit is built over the next two years.

WBBM's Mike Krauser reports a small crowd gathered waiting for Anana the polar bear to come out and dig into a pile of ice, lettuce and fish.

Sofia Evanoff came with her parents for the farewell party.

"I did zoo camp over the summer and I discovered what Anana likes, where's her place on the food chain, all of that and I'll really miss her," she said. "I like how unusual she is and how pretty because how many polar bears that you can find like lettuce?

Sofia and a lot of others wrote oversized cards for Anana, one writing, "Thanks for the fun times," and another "Thanks for always playing."
