CHICAGO (CBS) -- 2014 ... it's been a very wet year.

It started will all that snow (one of the heaviest on record) and has continued with drenching rains.

According to the National Weather Service, Chicago's Midway Airport has measured 42.48 inches of precipitation so far this year.

The above chart would look a lot better if it were our 401ks.

That includes 25.04 inches since June 1.

The normal for an entire year is 39.09.

To the northwest, at the official recording site at O'Hare Airport, the NWS recorded 31.73 inches so far this year--the seventh wettest on record.

The official year-to-date record is 38.30 inches.

The lowest amount of precipitation for the year to date is around 15 inches, set in 1992, according to NWS.
