Second Man Charged In May Homicide That Left Mother Of Three Dead

(STMW) -- A second man has been charged with murder in connection with a May shooting that left a mother of three dead on the Far South Side.

Marsharra Tate, 19, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, police announced Sunday morning.

Tate, of the 8300 block of South Saginaw, was arrested and charged after he was identified as the man who shot and killed 37-year-old Summer Moore in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen on May 9, police said.

Tate is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.

Family members said Moore, of the 3100 block of West Marquette, was attending a party to celebrate a teenage relative's prom send-off when she was shot in the chest, the Sun-Times reported previously. Police said she was not the intended target. In late June, Johnny Reese, 23, was also charged with two counts each of murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with Moore's death. Prosecutors alleged that about 7:50 p.m. on May 9, Reese was outside near 113th Place and Aberdeen when he saw a man with whom he had an ongoing dispute get into the passenger's seat of a car, Homicide Watch Chicago reported previously.

Reese and another person got into a Chevrolet Suburban and drove a half block south, at which point the passenger got out and opened fire on the car, prosecutors said at the time. At least one bullet struck Moore, who was pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center. Reese was ordered held on $1 million bond.
