Kirk Urges Republican Colleagues Not To Play Politics With Military Action Against ISIS

(CBS) -- U.S. Senator Mark Kirk is warning fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill against trying to score political points over President Obama's plan to attack and destroy the Islamic State terrorists, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Senator Kirk isn't sure whether airstrikes will be very effective against ISIS militants but he thinks the Obama administration is taking the right actions. He worries that any airstrikes in Syria will encounter resistance and possible U.S. casualties, but he wants Congress to be united behind the armed forces.

"There is a political problem here for members of the Republican Party that I would urge members of my party to not rejoice in military turnarounds just because they may embarrass the president," said Kirk.

Senator Kirk will be the guest on WBBM Newsradio's "At Issue" program which airs Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
