CHICAGO (CBS) — A new survey finds Illinois expressways are among the most congested in the nation.

Chicago claims the fourth-worst rush hour congestion to be exact.

The study found more than half of Illinois highways and interstates are congested between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in an around metro areas.

The news isn’t all bad.

Illinois is spending more than many other states on road-building and maintenance, giving the state more highways in relatively better condition.

Based on 11 indicators, Illinois ranked 27th out of the 50 states in overall state highway performance.
