Rauner Calls For Postponing Vote On State Income Tax Until After Election

(CBS) -- The election for Illinois Governor is still weeks away, but Republican candidate Bruce Rauner is trying to veto the idea of lawmakers voting to make permanent the 2011 income tax increase before he has a chance to take office.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports Republican challenger Bruce Rauner would like to see a vote to extend the income tax increase until after the November elections and it is a move he would like to block, if possible.

"I am calling on Mike Madigan, John Cullerton, and leader Radogno and leader Durkin not to call any tax legislation at all after Nov. 4 until the new members, the new General Assembly, is seated," Rauner said.

But the Democratic governor scoffs at Rauner and people he says caused the last recession and have no plan for raising enough revenue to pay for needed state services.

"I want to make sure we have a balanced budget that pays the bills, that properly invests in education," Quinn said. "I don't want radical, extreme cuts in our schools, or healthcare, or public safety or helping our veterans."
