(CBS) — A Glen Ellyn grocery story in business since 1862 is closing its doors this weekend after the owner said it was time to sell to developers who plan a residential-retail complex on the site of the state’s oldest family business, reports WBBM’s Mike Krauser.

The origins of McChesney & Miller date to the Civil War which Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mike Formento says is remarkable when you think about it.

“After 152 years that they have been here, they are the oldest family owned business in the state of Illinois,” Formento said.

He says it is a huge loss.

“They have been a draw in our community all this time,” Formento said.

It is the only grocery store downtown and a great neighbor over the years, he says.

“Bill Behrmann the owner and all of the McChesney Miller people have been huge contributors to our community and the community life,” Formento.
