Schneider, Dold Spar Over Healthcare In Debate

(CBS) -- The candidates for the 10th congressional district sparred Saturday morning over healthcare, abortion and other issues in a rematch of a very close race two years ago.

In a debate on WLS Channel 7, Republican Bob Dold accused the man who unseated him by a one percent margin in 2012, Democrat Brad Schneider, of being partisan and cutting Medicare.

Schneider says the Affordable Care Act doesn't cut Medicare and that Dold was the one to cut the retirement benefit in voting for the Ryan budget plan.

The pair both say they are pro-choice and exercise independence of their parties.

On the subject of ISIS, Dold says he won't rule out sending in ground troops to defeat the terrorist group.

Schneider says the best combat strategy is to train local people.

When it comes to bringing back jobs to their north suburban district, Dold says the answer is through tax cuts, while Schneider contends it's via bringing back manufacturing.
