Group Promises To Give Voters "Just The Facts" On The Candidates

CHICAGO (CBS) -- For any voters bewildered by all the attack ads and rhetoric in the race for Governor—or any other major contests—there's a website that wants to help you sort through noise.

WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports Project Vote Smart has been around for about 20 years, and pledges to give voters "just the facts" on virtually every candidate running for office.

Senior adviser Adelaide Kimball said the group collects voting records, position papers, funding sources, and speeches from every candidate running for governor, other statewide offices, Congress, and the state legislature in all 50 states.

"Vote Smart has offered a voters' self-defense system to counter this nonsense that happens each election year. We offer the tools that any voter needs to defend themselves against the hype and the spin," she said.

Visitors to the Vote Smart website can type in their zip code to get access to information on candidates running for office where you live.

Kimball said Vote Smart is vehemently non-partisan.

"We're funded entirely by foundations and individual contributions. We don't accept special interest money or partisan money of any kind," she said.
