Pizza Delivery Driver Shot In Dolton; $5,000 Reward Offered To Find Suspects

Updated 10/28/14 - 11:10 a.m.

(CBS) – A $5,000 reward was being offered to find the armed robbers who ambushed and seriously injured a Domino's pizza delivery man over the weekend in south suburban Dolton.

It happened near 141st and Indiana Saturday night. The unnamed victim was shot three times when he encountered three suspects during what is described as a set-up and ambush.

Police said, when the delivery driver arrived at 141st and Indiana, he called a cell phone number to confirm the address, and one of the suspects picked up, telling the driver he was at the right location.

Moments later, three men jumped out of bushes and attacked the driver, shooting him once in the arm and twice in the back, and stealing $20 in cash and the pizza.

The employee has worked for Domino's for several years, and has a family. He was in serious but stable condition on Tuesday.

Detectives were trying to trace the cell phone used to place the delivery order. Police were searching for three suspects who ambushed the Domino's employee.

"Hopefully, the phone – cell phone, whatever they called from – will trace back to the individual that made the phone call, or whoever owns it," community activist Andrew Holmes said.

Authorities said there have been at least three other recent robberies involving Domino's delivery drivers.

Reece Arroyave owns 20 franchises. His workers have been victimized in three recent robberies; Saturday's was the worst.

Arroyave visited his wounded employee at the hospital. He is expected to recover.

Dominos is offering a $5,000 reward for information that solves the crime.

Meantime, community activists were going door-to-door in Dolton and neighboring Riverdale, passing out fliers to see if anyone heard or saw the shooting and robbery on Saturday.

"We have to do something about the crime that's going on in Dolton, so we took an effort to get as many volunteers as we can," community activist Kiana Belcher said. "It's something that affects everybody, not just the business, but it affects the community."
