CHICAGO (STMW) — A north suburban man was caught in a sting investigation after he sent a lewd photo to a 12-year-old girl in Missouri, police said.

John W. Schraffenberger, 24, is charged with sexual exploitation of a child, according to a statement from Vernon Hills police.

Police in Missouri notified Vernon Hills police in April that Schraffenberger had sent a lewd photo to a 12-year-old girl on her cell phone via the Kik messenger app, police said.

A Vernon Hills police investigator then posed as a 13-year-old girl and texted regularly with Schraffenberger, which led to his arrest on Oct. 16, police said.

Schraffenberger, of the 0-100 block of Echo Court in Vernon Hills, was released on bond and is next scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20.

Anyone who believes they know of someone who had “inappropriate communication” with Schraffenberger should call police at (847) 362-4449.
