Boomer Esiason Questions Trestman's Personality To Instill Discipline In Bears

(CBS) In an interview with the Spiegel and Mannelly Show on Friday morning, CBS analyst and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason questioned whether Bears coach Marc Trestman has the leadership to direct Chicago through the storm of a 3-6 start.

"I never really felt he'd be the great personality as a head coach," Esiason said. "Quite frankly, allowing Brandon Marshall to do what he does on Showtime (joining a weekly show on Tuesdays in New York) was shocking to all of us. Bill Belichick would never allow that to happen. And maybe that's just the new way of doing things in the NFL, but ... there's really only one way to do things in the NFL, and that's a disciplined approach to everything you do. And that has never changed throughout the years. This is really a departure from that, so it doesn't surprise me that they're having some failures here at this juncture in the season."

Esiason added he respects Trestman as an offensive coordinator and doesn't think he should be fired midseason because it's not that productive in the NFL with only a 16-game season.
